anyone familiar with techno will have almost certainly know who the advent is. the advent first started out as a duo (cisco ferreira & colin mcbean) having a solid history creating & producing music with & for some of the giants of techno including derrick may, jay denham & kevin saunderson & releasing tracks previously on prestigious labels such as ffrr amongst others, cisco ferreira continues to produce some of the best techno ever known & this ep is no exception. mixworks are proud to announce the release of d sector by the advent.

blue hawaii, arbutus records and many of their montreal counterparts all began with the same breath in early 2010. to date blue hawaii has released an 8 song ep: in may of that year, blooming summer (arbutus records 2010) was recorded following the pairs travels in central america. it frames a time of warmth and novelty, featuring dense female harmonies, tape saturated synths, guitars and drum machines. eventually ra- returned to her role in braids, touring constantly, while ag– moved to europe, treading deeper into dance music, electronics, and production. the two decided to make untogether in 2012, they began recording on new years day in vancouver and intermittently worked on the project until summer broke in montreal. the music followed their winter in canada, it became colder, more introspective. it again captured a time and place, but instead of a dense saturation of love and excitement, this record reflects the vast world of self-awareness and delicacy.

french-native and barcelona-inhabitant, shade, makes his rvs debut with this lush and authentic slab of deep house. whilst his name may be fresh on rvs, he is no stranger to house music, having been an active member of the parisian house community for over 15 years. as well as running the much-lauded polyphonics records since 2004, julien shade has made appearances as an artist on illustrious labels such as silver network and pschent.

after his separation from playhouse in 2007 and the rather longish break that followed it, it looks as if isolee has finally found their new homebase with pampa records. evidence of this may be found in such unprejudiced tracks as taktell, a single extracted from the album well-spent youth. as is tyical for isolee, it defies any clear-cut genre classification and creates its very own harmonic setting, merging associations of pop, house and distant landscapes into a unique sound voyage.

with its non-placed devices and hard-to-pin-down aesthetic falling between electronic and psychedelic music and the warm-hued sounds of traditional acoustic instruments, burnt friedmans zokuhen,produced exclusively for vinyl, may be considered an extension of bokoboko. on this new double ep, too, the music focuses on uneven rhythms that dictate the groove for all the participating musical elements and display a formal logic to which all the instruments gladly succumb. with its even rhythm and proximity to dub reggae, the track kon ki (c2) shows that exceptions from the rule are permitted among the six new tracks and two re-worked bokoboko themes that round off this follow-up.

the e.p kicks off with she can dance, a slow burning acid number that has elements of deep, grooving house from the detroit school. in fact, the second cut low control bares the influence of detroit too, with its murky, dubbed-out chords ala luke hess moving into a punchy bassline with minimal but functional drum patterns. proceedings get a bit more bouncy on the smoking hat, a quirky acid romp on the less daft side of ceephax, and the perfect soundtrack to accompany a feature-length documentary about.... a smoking hat. finishing up the e.p is fudge fingas remix of low control, the only man qualified to make an already deep as fuck track even deeper. theres been some on-point criticisms about a lot recent deep stuff getting lost in noodly jazz territory, but we are in no danger of that nonsense with fudge fingas at the controls: accomplished a musician he may be, hes never been one to lose the way, and this mix proves his deft and subtle remix talents. dabj done done it again, and hopefully this is the first in a long line of productions from vernon.

fall back is the first single from the forthcoming debut lp on dfa records. the track is 8 minutes 30 seconds long. if you like factory floor, you will like this song. if you dont like factory floor, you will now. the b-sides are exclusive to vinyl and feature 3 separate loops taken from the single, created each by dom, gabe & nik. the lp is due for release may, 2013

as christmas 1969 beckoned, jimi hendrix, bassist billy cox, and drummer buddy miles engaged in extensive rehearsals for their highly anticipated appearances at the fillmore east in new york. branded by hendrix as the band of gypsys, the trio worked feverishly rounding such exciting new original material as >izabella< and >machine gun< into form. keenly aware of the special significance his forthcoming concerts represented, jimi wanted to prepare something extraordinary for his audience. to mark the occasion in his own inimitable fashion, jimi readied this special medley of holiday favorites to celebrate both christmas and the dawning of a new decade. this recording was made at baggys studios, a manhattan rehearsal facility the group preferred. it by no means should be considered a polished studio recording made to hendrixs exacting specifications. it is, instead, perhaps even more revealing. this is a glimpse of jimi simply having fun in the company of close friends. the photograph of jimi posing as santa claus was originally organized on behalf of the uk music newspaper record mirror. to help publicize the december 1967 release of axis: bold as love, the groups second album, jimi agreed to pose as santa for the issues cover. an alternate photograph from that session, with jimi bearing gifts in the form of axis: bold as love, is featured here. as an added bonus, also included is jimis playful >three little bears<. this track was recorded with the experience at the record plant in may 1968 during sessions for electric ladyland. bypassed for that album, >three little bears< was originally issued as part of the 1972 posthumous compilation war heroes. it has been unavailable in the us for nearly twenty-five years.

the new bomb on echocord colour comes from nick höppner and scott monteith aka deadbeat. this is the first ep by nick höppner on echocord colour. nick is maybe most known as being the manager of one of berlins most infamous record labels, ostgut-ton, höppner may not always receive the same lavish praise as ostgut artists like ben klock, shed and marcel dettmann, but there is an argument to be had that he is the best of the bunch. höppner only releases sporadically, but whether it is solo or alongside lee jones as mymy, his records are always remarkable. the 2 tracks for this release are both peaktime tracks. deadbeat did the remix.

chairlift present takes on several cuts from acclaimed second album >something< by some of their favorite producers, showcasing how their songs can easily be adapted for the club. appropriately titled the 6.15amix, spanish equipo fantástico john talabot and pional turn >i belong in your arms< into a balearica-infused club-closer. a nifty piano line and seductive rhythm take the song on a late night (or rather early morning) trip to the beach, while carolines voice is being warped into something from outer space. photek takes the same track to a whole different place with his powerful jungle interpretation. martyn respects both the pace and rhythm of sidewalk safari, yet exchanges the clean production for a rather more cosmic beat, incorporating many of his signature touches to compliment the sinister >i m gonna hunt you down< lyric. dan careys dub mix of >sidewalk safari< shows a more playful side, while arguably the most intriguing remix of the package is the fields take on >met before<, recalling his early work it is so warped and layered you may struggle to imagine the original minus the smallest of hints.

nice price deal !!! redux return from a winter hibernation and summer of partying with some more essential wax. grand corporation is the latest alias of andy meecham (emperor machine/chicken lips) and stevie kotey (bearfunk/chicken lips), features the incredible vocals of deborah bell, and really cements the reputations of two of scenes finest producers. the grand corporation sound is inspired by the very best dance music from detroit/chicago/new york, resulting in some raw, sleazy and soulful early house vibes. there may be bit of a trend for reproducing classic house sounds at the moment, but these guys are seriously qualified to do it and unlike a lot of their peers capture the essence of what made this music so exciting in the first place. free comes in vocal and instrumental versions, and with a superb bonus acid dub in the do it proper remix.
